Beyond the Bikini

Day after a show.....sweats, t-shirt, no make up, hair in a pony-tail, hat on pulled down tight... that's a virtual picture of the real me. Me without the bikini, the make-up, the hair style,  the bright lights... that is the real Khay Rosemond. I'm just like everyone else on stage and they are just like me. Everyone has a story and are champions in their own right.

When people that are not in the industry and even some that are, hear about "Bikini" championships or competitions the visual is a girl dressed in a little bikini shaking her butt in a provocative way in order to entice the unlookers because she has nothing better to do. "Well bikini competitions are easy, you don't have to workout, you just throw on a bikini and shake your butt", they would say. This couldn't be any further from the truth. Regardless of the placing that an individual competitor comes in they are all winners and champions in their own right. The reason and the story of how that woman came to be standing on that stage is a true testament of what I define as Sexy-Strong.  Each of the competitors has a story. Look Beyond the Bikini and understand that maybe the girl to the left of the stage was in an accident and was told she could never walk again, maybe the girl to the right had an illness that she recovered from, maybe the girl in the middle was in an abusive relationship and was told she was worth nothing and wouldn't do anything with her life. You see these competitions are more than a "bikini competition" they are a showcase of individual victories that family, friends and fellow "champions" all get to witness and be apart of. So if you know someone who competes, go and support them and be sure to applaud EVERYONE because I can guarantee there is a great story Beyond the Bikini.

Ok everyone. I have been woking on this project for a while now with IFBB Pro Meriza DeGuzman and I am very excited to share it with you guys! Please click on the link below.

"Meriza and I are "starring" in a video/photo essay project called Sexy-Strong.  Our aim is to share all of the "positive" we get out of the sport and the business that we are blessed to be a part of.  Our Art and our Sport, it is more than just about developing your body.  It's about discipline, drive, and celebrating the strength of spirit at the same time as acknowledging and celebrating the power and beauty of being female.  We are very thankful for the gift of health, and hope to inspire young athletes to appreciate and respect their bodies, and focus on preserving, improving their health as well.  Keep spreading the good word of fitness!  That's our goal!"

The Human Spirit and Giving Back

What a show!! The 2010 West Coast Classic is in the history books with a bang. The show brought out so many wonderful competitors. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. Everyone was at their best.
One of the best highlights of the show was the three awards that Lonnie Teper gave out that you will not see on the results page.
The first award was called "From the King to the Fitness Queen" presented to Asia Monet Ray for her outstanding performance. Everyone's jaws were on the ground watching the dynamite 4 year old with the stage presence of a seasoned veteran dance her way around. Outstanding performance!
The second award was the "Hans Hopstaken" award presented to Brian Whelan for being inspirational to all those around him and carrying on the inspirational values of the late Hans Hopstaken. Brian has been an inspiration to all even after he was told he would loose his legs due to a freak gym accident. Well as you can see from the pictures below Brian is standing tall.
The third but not at all the least was the "Spirit" award that was presented to Austin Beaumont. The award as the previous two was presented to him by Lonnie to distinguish his high human spirit . You see Austin was involved in a serious car accident and lost his sight. Even with no vision Austin still trained and had enough "spirit" to step on to a competitive stage to compete for the 50+ Bodybuilding Championship!!! Austin came in 5th to a rousing applause.
Big kudos to Asia Monet Ray, Brian Whelan and Austin Beaumont for standing tall and big kudos to Lonnie Teper for taking the time to present those awards and giving back to the competitors. The time he took to present those awards touched all that were there.

2010 West Coast Classic

Ah so excited for Saturday, June 26th!!! The new National Qualifier, West Coast Classic is continually growing in size. I talked to Lonnie Teper today and he mentioned that he may add an additional class for Mens Bodybuilding (60+) and may also add an additional class for the Bikini division.  And to top it all off, none other than 3-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler will be there again to guest pose. As if the weekend couldn't be more exciting already for all the competitors. He is rumored to be at 285 lbs! I'm almost there at a whopping 95 lbs LOL! I'll make sure to get an up to date picture of a posedown between Jay and I.

Come support your family member or your favorite competitor that weekend.
We all have worked hard to get here and would love the support. Prejudging starts at 11:00 am and the finals start at 6:00 pm. Purchase tickets through the NPC West Coast Classic website at http://www.npcwestcoast.com/

Sexy Strong Project

Hi Everyone!!
Well I have been very busy prepping for my next show, which is in 3 weeks and working on several exciting projects! One of the projects that I am super excited to announce is a video series with IFBB Figure Pro, Meriza De Guzman called SEXY STRONG.
We have done our inaugural video, which you can see on MerizaFigureTV and had our first photo shoot of the series with Pavel Ythjall this past Friday. It was such a pleasure to work with Pavel and his crew again and Meriza is just amazing. Our goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle and show that women can be strong and sexy all in one package with class and grace. It's okay to hit the weights ladies! We also want to be a very positive role model for all the young women out there. We are both mothers and know how very important it is for young girls to grow up with a positive outlook on life and themselves.
Check out the teaser pic and enjoy.

XOXO
Khay

Exciting Times!

Hi Everyone!! It has been awhile since I have had the chance to blog so I'm going to inform you on a few things. First I would like to thank everyone for your continued love and support, it means the world to me.

I had a chance to have a photo shoot with Isaac Hinds from Lift Studios and Hardbody.com in late March. It was such a blast to work with Isaac and Ron Avidan. I will post some pics soon.
Okay so as you know I was planing on competing at the Muscle Contest in late March but had a change of plans due to an injury that had me sidelined a bit. I was introduced to some amazing Doctors who helped put me back together and get me ready for my biggest show yet, the Emerald Cup! The Emerald cup was an impressive show and one of the most organized event I have attended. Not only was it in beautiful Washington State but it was also on my wedding anniversary.  The competition there was awesome and I was so pleased to see so many girls competing and standing up on stage with such pride! I was very delighted to place 2nd at that show. I felt I brought my best physique to date to the stage and felt honored with my placing... I was fortunate enough to meet some amazing new friends along the way as well which is always a plus. After the show it was off to dinner to celebrate with my hubby. :-)

                               The 2010 Emerald Cup - 2nd place

Well no rest for the weary as they say, I competed the very next weekend at the Orange County Muscle Classic and won my class and the Overall Bikini Championship!! I even got to meet and take a picture with 3 time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler! (thanks Ron Avidan).
That show was even more special because it was close to home and I had lots of family and friends in the audience cheering me and the girls on!

2010 Orange County Muscle Classic-Overall Bikini Champion

I have been very fortunate to meet some of the most amazing people in my journey and I have some super exciting projects coming up in the next few months so keep your eyes peeled. I attended the posing clinic of IFBB Pro Figure competitor, Meriza DeGuzman at World Gym in San Diego. Meriza runs a well organized and very informative posing seminar. We then ate some of the most amazing sushi at Meriza and Pete's favorite spot with some friends. See you guys again soon. ;-)
I'm also competing again this summer but have not decided which show yet, but I promise to keep you all posted, until then.
